TEETH GRINDING CAN CAUSE HEADACHES AND DAMAGE TO TEETH

Teeth grinding (bruxism) is a surprisingly common disorder, affecting over 40 million Americans. Increased stress has been shown to fuel the incidence of teeth grinding. Anti-depressant drugs like Prozac, Zoloft and Paxil have been shown to induce teeth grinding as a secondary effect as well. Teeth grinding is harmful to your oral structure as it causes wear and damage to your teeth as well as potentially causing conditions like headaches or migraines. Many people are unaware that they are affected by this condition as it commonly manifests at night while you are sleeping or during times of stress. Dr. Francisco Marcano offers several different forms of teeth-grinding treatment to help protect the health of your teeth.

EFFECTIVE SOLUTIONS TO TEETH GRINDING

Our office features many effective treatments for teeth grinding that can help protect your teeth. Nightguards are custom-made appliances that are worn in your mouth while you sleep. Nightguards prevent your teeth from grinding together at night and are designed by Dr. Marcano to fit your mouth specifically. A bite splint is another treatment for teeth grinding that covers the teeth and adds a smooth surface to where the teeth would normally come into contact. This allows your teeth to gently slide over the surface and directs them into the correct position, preventing any grinding from occurring. For more severe cases of teeth grinding we can perform an occlusal adjustment, which involves modifying your bite to become more harmonious as your teeth connect. Dr. Marcano will identify areas of your teeth that are connecting at improper locations and then reshape these areas so they connect correctly.

TREAT THE ROOT CAUSE OF YOUR SYMPTOMS

After seeking treatment for their teeth grinding, the majority of our patients experience drastic relief from discomfort. Too much grinding and wearing down of your teeth will make them incapable of chewing or biting properly. Many times, these teeth will need to be restored with a dental crown in order to provide function again. If teeth break or fracture from grinding and cannot be restored, then extraction and replacement with a dental implant may be necessary as well. Dr. Marcano and his friendly team always put patient care at the forefront of every decision to ensure a well thought-out and predictable outcome to each case of teeth grinding.
